In this lecture we started a new topic – Lateral drawing. It is the drawing of objects, their different surfaces, textures, angels, so on. It is a key form of drawing when learning proportions and shapes – to do so one must observe the object carefully and from different angels.
Shape, depth, height, width, proportion, character, finish, material – these are the factors that help us sketch an object in it’s true form. To show these factors in our sketch and give a life to our sketch, we use different forms of sketching like cross hatching, shading, stippling, vertical hatching, etc. This mainly brings out the form and texture of the object. If stippling is used for the entire object, it is called Lithography. Adding shadows is also key to adding life to objects and can make a major transformation to the entire picture.
