STUDIO LECTURE 1

ABSTRACT AND PERCEPTION :

ABSTRACT

Abstarct sketches are those sketches which depict an emotion, feeling, scenario  or thought without actually representing it with the help of objects. Shapes, colours, lines and textures are used to achieve this effect. It’s a form of imaginary art.

In this lecture we were briefed on the form and structure of abstract and were given 5 topics to sketch in abstract, 5 sketches each. The following were the topics allotted –

1 – YOUR HAPPY PLACE

2 – YOUR THOUGHTS WHEN YOU LOOK OUT OF THE WINDOW

3 – ONE WORD DESCRIPTION OF YOUR BEST FRIEND

4 – HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR JOURNEY TO COLLEGE TODAY

5 – STATE OF MIND IN THE MORNING

We had to represent these scenarios and thoughts using lines ( straight or curvy ) and dots ( circles included ) only.

We were not allowed to shade or draw objects with the help of lines or dots. Abstract drawing is something that can not be understood unless explained or named. Attached below are a few of my sketches.

PERCEPTION

Your perception of something is the way that you think about it or the impression you have of it. it’s the art of noticing things of the object that are not very evident. Perception depends on the viewer’s ideology, behaviour and psychology. It is a multifaceted discipline and depends on many sub-fields that is – our sense, especially the sense of sight

Abstract and Perception go hand in hand. Once you perceive something, you use that very thought or impression to draw an abstract sketch. Without perception you can not make an abstract sketch. These 2 concepts are reversable as well – looking at an abtract one can also figure out the thought ( perception ) behind it.
