In the second lecture we focused on the sketches of human figures. We learnt about the human body proportions and how to capture them correctly on paper.
Every student had to come infront of the class and strike a pose while the others would try to sketch him or her, as accurately as possible. But we had to sketch them using lines only – like stick figures. Once we got a hang of it, ma’am would tell us to build the actual form around it. While sketching the stick figure, we had to start from the MAIN LINE that is the longest line that runs through the figure and is usually in the form of either of these letters – C, S, I.
Over time, we got the figure’s form better and also focused more on the details like the folds in the fabrics and the patterns on them. We also started focusing on the shadow and it’s varying intensity.
In the second half, multiple students posed together to form 1 frame. The issue I faced while sketching this frame was that I could not get the depth correctly. But over the lecture i did figure it out. The key to it was to capture the base lines correctly – of every human and then accentuate the whole outer figure.
Our assignment for the next class was to click pictures of a place in the day and night – from the same spot and with the same angle.
