In the first drawing lecture of this semester, we spoke about the elements and principles of design. Design is formed by using these elements directly or indirectly and then slowly build a piece.
The elements of design that ma’am discussed were –
- LINES
- TEXTURE
- SHAPE
- VALUE
- FORM
- SPACE
- COLOUR
Next we discussed the principles of drawing
- Balance
- Scale
- Movement
- Harmony
- Pattern
- Emphasis
- Contrast
All sketches and designs have minimum 1 principle being used in them.
In the second half of the day we practiced some lines and circles. Our wrists play an important role in the form and neatness of our sketch. To open up our wrist joint and make it more flexable and free, ma’am made us draw horizontal and vertical lines on a newsprint sheet. She also made us practice concentric circles. We ended the class by doing multiple sheets like these.
