At the beginning of this lecture, our faculty revised the definitions we had spoken about in the previous lecture. We further discussed it and got our doubts clarified. Next we proceeded to the workshop for our orientation. This orientation was headed by sanjay dabolkar sir and his team. They started briefing us about the machines and tools available in the workshop. The most important part was the safety measures and rules to be followed in the workshop –
- Shoes are compulsory while working in the workshop.
- Industrial glasses and gloves are to be brought to the studio.
- Register before taking tools.
- Wear a face mask to avoid allergies.
Before starting to work on our final model, we must make a prototype and note the measurements we want to use for our final piece.
To do so there are various instruments available :
Measuring Instruments –
- 12″ scale, 18″ scale, 24″ scale, 36″ scale and measuring tapes of various lengths.
- Vernier caliper, divider.
Cutting instruments –
- 2 kinds of hax saw – 1 for wood and 1 for metal.
- Cutting chisel, the metal scissor, wooden chisel, pincher.
- Spiral drill, flat drill.
Hammering instruments –
- Ball pin hammer, a cross pin hammer and a claw hammer.
Pliers –
- combination plier, nose plier, and wire cuter.
- Nose plier has more variety- pipe plier/ monkey plier, long nose plier, combination nose plier, round nose plier, short nose plier, flat nose plier, bent nose plier.
Screwdrivers – Flat and Philip screwdrivers.
Clamping tools – Bench wise clamping tool, Spring clamp, Steel clamp, Bar clamp.
Joining instruments –
- Hot – welding machine and soldering iron.
- Cold – nut and bolt fittings and riveting.
Hand Power Tools–
- Hand drills, hot glue guns, hand jigsaw heat guns, jigsaw, thermocol cutter.
Sir then showed us how to use every tool and also showed us the working of the machines by making small prototypes.
